Frequently Asked Questions

Clear aligners are highly effective for treating a wide range of orthodontic issues in both teens and adults, including crowded teeth, gaps, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. However, severe or highly complex orthodontic cases may still require traditional braces. Dr. White or Dr. Lee will determine if clear aligners are the right fit for you during your initial consultation.
The duration of your treatment depends entirely on the complexity of your case and how much your teeth need to move. On average, treatment times range from 6 to 18 months. You will start seeing noticeable improvements in your smile within just a few weeks of starting!
Clear aligners are generally much more comfortable than traditional metal braces. However, it is completely normal to experience some mild, temporary discomfort or pressure for the first day or two after switching to a new set of aligners. This pressure is a sign that the aligners are working and actively moving your teeth.
For the treatment to be effective and stay on schedule, you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking anything other than plain water, brushing, and flossing.

No! One of the best things about clear aligners is that there are zero food restrictions. Because you remove them before you eat, you can continue to enjoy all your favorite foods, including popcorn, apples, nuts, and sticky candies, which are strictly off-limits with traditional braces.
Cleaning your aligners is simple. You should gently brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, antibacterial soap or a specialized aligner cleaning solution every time you take them out. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the plastic, and avoid colored soaps or abrasive toothpastes that can scratch or stain the aligners.

You may experience a slight lisp for the first few days as your tongue gets used to having the aligners in your mouth. However, this is temporary, and your speech will quickly return to normal as you adjust to wearing them.

Once your teeth are in their ideal positions, you will need to wear a retainer to prevent them from shifting back to their original places. We will provide you with a custom-fit, clear retainer that is typically worn only at night while you sleep.
